Lazy Day Sloth

Robert VandenDool

On a 2019 ecotourism trip to the Guanacaste province of Costa Rica, one of the most enlightened and proactive countries where wildlife welfare and conservation are concerned, I was privileged to spot a number of wild Brown-throated Three-toed Sloths — and I mean barely spot! So slow that moss grows over their coats, it was just another lazy day for this particular Sloth. For me, it was an exhilarating encounter I will never forget.
