Whitby
Rebecca Fortin is a visual artist from rural Whitby, Ontario. She seeks to foster a deep connection between people, plants and nature through her art. Her current focus is creating botanical castings. Every stem, petal and seed are carefully removed after pressing a floral composition into wet clay. A positive relief is created by pouring plaster over the impression. The casts are painted and/or sealed using non-toxic and natural paint, many that are created from dye plants in her gardens.
After a 20-year career in Public Health, Rebecca Fortin is enjoying a second career working full-time as a professional artist and spending as much time, as is possible, outdoors in nature and with plants. She recently graduated from the Drawing + Painting program at the Haliburton School of Art + Design (2022). Fortin’s work has been shown in galleries and shows across Ontario and held in private collections.
